Hiccups and Cucumber Slices

I am thankful I have many vivid memories of you, Mom: some sad, a lot of everyday-sort-of-scenes, and quite a few funny & joyful. One is when you woke me up by placing cucumber slices on my eyelids - it was so random and it happened just the one time; I think you read in a magazine that it was good for your skin? You sat next to me for a bit while the cool moisture seeped into my pores, then took them away and walked out in a manner that said "my job is done here", and told me to wake up so I could come eat breakfast.

Another scene that makes me smile is when you were driving me to go shopping, and I started having the hiccups. At the next stop light, you unexpectedly screamed at me - I was more than startled as that kind of thing was definitely out of character for you, and asked "What the heck was that for?!" You replied "If I scare you it's supposed to stop your hiccups. Did it work?" I kept staring at you, still a bit incredulous, but quickly realized I wasn't hiccuping anymore - "It worked!," I said, and we laughed for the next 5 minutes.
